Though not strictly a club, Ushuaia has certainly given some of the best clubs in Ibiza a run for their money since opening in 2009. Originally a beach bar, Ushuaia was soon discovered by the DJs of the island, who utilised it’s impressive sound system and prime location for both day time and carry-on after parties. Continued expansion has seen it develop into one of the Island's hippest hotels and a glam club venue.
With millions of Euros invested in the new project, Ushuaia upped sticks and found a permanent home in Playa D’en Bossa opposite another great venue, Space. Although a hotel in the first instance, catering for a glamorous clubbing crowd, it’s the open air day time music that has every one talking. The central pool side area of the hotel becomes a party for up to three thousand revellers every day of the week. It has attracted big DJs and crowds alike for it’s first season of re-opening, making it one of the hottest venues on the island.
It began life set between sand dunes to the south of Playa D’en Bossa beach, where Ushuaia made its name by creating a feeling of being secluded away from one of Ibiza’s busiest resorts. When Ushuaia was actually within easy reach of its neighbour Space and a short stroll down the beach from Bora Bora. It was this secret, hidden vibe that gave Ushuaia much of its charm. In essence it went back to what people love about Ibiza; dancing on sand to music played outside in the sun.
That same philosophy has somewhat been transferred to the newly renovated complex that spans all the way to the beach, from the main road running through Playa D’en Bossa, including the large pool area and a small indoor club. The new look Ushuaia's first season saw house stalwarts Defected, Swedish House Mafia and Sasha run residencies, while the likes of BBC Radio 1, Danny Tenaglia, Usher, Human League and even old disco legends, Kool + the Gang, featured in one off parties.
Ushuaia is a hotel, so plan your trip if you want to party. Ushuaia's heavy investment is evident in 5 star rooms such as 'swim-up' pool side rooms, to Presidential suites and even a branded Pioneer suite, complete with CDJ's, mixer, amp, sub-woofer and 8 speakers for the best sound in your private party. In-house Japanese restaurant Minami brings a bit of oriental flavour to your stay. Whether this is really what Ibiza is all about is debatable, but one thing is for sure, Ushuaia has changed the landscape of Ibiza for ever.
Why not come back to Non-Stop Ibiza in time for next season and the low down on Ushuaia 2012.
