With such a plethora of places to drink in Ibiza Town knowing where is best can be a daunting task. With this in mind NonStop handpicks just a few suggestions for you but we strongly recommend you do a little exploring yourself too. Around midnight things tend to pick up and the crowds start to swell, filling up all the outdoor seating and spilling over onto the pavements. A cosmopolitan mix of families on a late night stroll and pretty young things congregating before taking to the clubs mingle in the packed streets.
Walking around the old slender streets you will encounter PRs plying you with offers to entice you to stop and have a drink in their bars. If you find yourself a place you like it pays to become friendly with the staff; this in turn can lead to preferential treatment with perks like the odd free drink thrown in! And on occasion you might even find yourself invited for a night out with the staff once they have finished work at around 3am. This is kind of hospitality and spontaneity is by no means out of character for the island.
The Passeig Maritim alongside the harbour has numerous bars with spacious outside areas. These tend to be a tad more relaxed than the bars further along which are very much the realm of the pre-club crowd.
If you continue to the far end of the port there is a pedestrian street called Calle Garijo, lined with numerous bars on one side with terraces opposite. This is a fantastic spot to people watch and if you sit tight for a while you are sure to catch the parades from the various club nights which can be an unforgettable spectacle, generally consisting of drop dead gorgeous girls in outrageous or fantastical costumes (or lack of!) and guys who look like Michelangelo put a chisel to their torsos. The parades vary in size and some are a wonder to behold whilst others are comparatively lacking in imagination. Photo opportunities abound as they pause at certain bars en route and take advantage of the food and drinks presented to them.
NonStop’s Recommendations:
El Pirata – Tucked in between Mambo bar and Angelo’s, this little gem is easily missed. It has a modest exterior in comparison to its neighbours but the staff are lovely, the pizzas and coffees fantastic and the drinks strong. The fact that it is always busy is testament in itself. A great choice to get close to the club parade beauties as they always stop at El Pirata for chupitos (shots) and a slice of their famous pizza. Address: 10 Calle Garijo
Base Bar - Popular with Brits and famed for its amiable staff, lively atmosphere and special appearances by famous dj’s warming up before their sets at the clubs.
Address: 16 Calle Garijo.
Rock Bar - Legendary hangout right at the end of the port and an ideal spot for any first time visitors to the island. Attracts a classy crowd and is also a favourite haunt of international celebs, DJs and island personalities.
Address: Right next to Base Bar, you can’t miss it!
Tira Palla – An insider’s treat this one. Through a nondescript front door, up some stairs and out onto a terrace with fabulous views of the Old Town. This is an authentic Ibicencan hangout, full of locals and the odd in-the-know tourist.
Address: 8 Calle Santa Lucia
The Red Lounge – A cute and very underrated bar tucked away in the Old Town with huge floor cushions outside, making for a great place to chillout if you’d prefer to be away from the crowds in the port.
Address: 4 Sa Carossa
Zoo bar – Sat on the cusp of a junction that acts somewhat as an invisible marker stone between the relatively relaxed bars along the Passeig Maritim and the raucous happenings further along on Calle Garijo. Zoo is a busy place and wonderful for people watching.
Address: 1 Calle Barcelona
Match Bar - Affiliated with the bars of the same name in London, serving their trademark cocktails of distinction. Take a seat in the chic chillout area, full of tempting loungers and sofas and watch the endless carnival of people passing by in the epitome of comfort. Address: 5 Calle Garijo.
