Ibiza Restaurant: Blue Marlin - King Amongst Beach Clubs

Friday 28th August 2009 - 21:33

If you fancy a day or night rubbing shoulders (literally at times) with the beautiful people in just about the most chic beach club on the island, Blue Marlin has it all, minus the air kisses.

Dotted with sun loungers and a couple of exclusive and spacious lounge beds (aswell as the VIP area), Blue Marlin provides ample opportunity to laze around during the day, catching some sun with a delectable cocktail in hand. It’s another good location on the island to see in sunset.

Blue Marlin’s restaurant offers Mediterranean cuisine with a tinge of the Orient. Sushi and beef carpaccio might make unusual bedfellows on a menu but who cares when it all tastes so good?

Most nights of the week tend to be a comparatively relaxed occasion but come sunday early evening it all lets loose with live music on a flamenco fusion tip. It draws a huge crowd and the only thing anyone appears to be concerned about at all is partying. At times it seems as if anything remotely resembling a flat surface becomes an improvised dancefloor as the excitable punters dance on top of sofas, tables or anywhere their feet will fit. Afterwards the resident DJs continue the party in the same vein, whipping up an electric atmosphere.

Feel like a little respite from the festivities? Simply escape to the beach area for some star gazing or have a peek at all the yachts moored not far from shore.

It’s very dressy, very glam but don’t feel intimidated by Blue Marlin’s image as an exclusive hangout frequented by island glitterati and international celebs. Ibiza is well-known as being diverse and tolerant; you’ll be hard pressed to find any of the snobbery that you might experience in other similar places elsewhere in the world.

Getting there

Blue Marlin is on Cala Jondal which is in the south west of the island. It is signposted from the San Jose road, between Ibiza and San Antonio.

Do I need to book?

Certainly, for everything from tables at the restaurant to the sun loungers. They also cater for private functions or events such as birthdays.

Best time to go

Blue Marlin has plenty to offer by day or night so choose one or the other, or indeed both.

Must try

The wild sea bass carpaccio or fish of the day.
