Good things come in small packages, as we are often told. Case in point being Cala d’Hort; a popular and perfectly formed beach off the road to San Jose which is probably best known for its views of the infamous and enigmatic island Es Vedra. The road leading down to the beach offers tantalising glimpses of Es Vedra looming in the distance and once there its sheer magnificence can truly be appreciated. Cala d’Hort itself might be lacking in stature but it has clear water, a sandy beach, 3 great restaurants, a boutique in high season and the occasional ‘big wave’ (by Ibizan standards) for those of you who enjoy activities on the beach rather than relaxing.
Compounded by myth, the enormous rocky island of Es Vedra peaks at almost 400m high and proudly stands a couple of km out to sea. It can be challenging ascertaining fact from fiction, such are some of the outlandish claims attributed to it. Putting the legends to one side though, possibly most curious of all is that according to many sources it is the 3rd most magnetic point on earth and has a reputation not dissimilar to that of The Bermuda Triangle. If you’re feeling bold enough to investigate some of these stories for yourself you can catch a boat from San Antonio or Ibiza to Es Vedra.
The more adventurous of you might also choose to make your way to one of the various cliff perches along the coast from Cala d’Hort, including a centuries old Moorish tower, from where there are stunning views of it from up high (it is also worth noting that this is a wonderful place to watch the sunset and popular amongst those in the know).
Regardless of whether you have a predilection for the occult or not, the fact remains that Es Vedra is an awe inspiring spectacle and one deserving of a visit. We at NonStop have to admit there certainly is something about the place!
