DC10 will not to reopen in 2009
Saturday 6th June 2009 - 05:53
It won’t come as a surprise to many who have followed the plight of one the islands most infamous clubs, but DC10 is certain not to open in 2009. The club owners this week lost their appeal to reopen and were fined an eye watering 300,000 euros for breach of their license. The problems have arisen due to the nature of DC10’s original permit. The venue was in fact only licensed to have 64 people inside at any one time and officially described as a café bar. Anyone who went to the venue over the past four to five years would have seen probably the busiest café in the world.
It is well known the authorities were growing tired of the problems the venue brought to Ibiza. The club is based near the national park of Ses Salinas, which was always a concern, but the drug problems and summer casualties were the real tipping point.
The loss of the club and its famous Monday party Circo Loco are a grave loss to the islands’ nightlife and it’s renaissance over the past few years. We can only hope something will fill the vacuum and further venues will emerge for party people in 2009.
