Cocoon's Tenth Season
Monday 18th May 2009 - 09:43
Cocoon always appeared to be on the fringes of Ibiza club land when it first arrived in 1999. A German, mainly techno night headed by Sven Vath didn’t seem to have the same party resonance as super brands Cream or Ministry of Sound.
However, fast forward ten years and Cream and Ministry of Sound look a little past former glories while Cocoon, is possibly the most relevant club brand in the world. Techno is back in vogue, after years in the dance wilderness and German clubbing is a by word for cool. So how did all this happen?
Monday party Circo Loco certainly helped remind the island that it could appreciate a deeper and dubbier sound, plus their terrace provided the ultimate warm up to cocoon, shutting at midnight right on queue when Cocoon opened their doors. But it has been Cocoons stead fast approach, keeping the sound consistent until the world got it, rather than the other way round. Their unique photographic campaigns featuring the man himself Sven Vath, often among the other global Cocoon stars Villalobos or Hawtin. And their ability to create an amazing party atmosphere in a giant warehouse type space that Amnesia is these days.
Even workers pay a concessions price of thirty euros, used to gaining entry for free in any club they still chose to come here and pay for the privilege, a testament for the love of the party on the island. They are back once again for another super season and celebrating their tenth birthday to boot. Make room on the dance floor, it all starts on Monday 15th June at midnight.
Happy Birthday Cocoon!
