Chic Hotels Ibiza - Nonstop's Choice of The Top End Hotels

Saturday 1st August 2009 - 14:04

For many years Ibiza was restricted to very few high-end hotels. It was always said there were no 5 star hotels in Ibiza. All that has changed in the last few years with the opening of some impressive offerings in the accommodation stakes.

Nonstopibiza picks of some of the new and some of the traditional hotels of choice among the don’t mind paying for a bit of luxury:

Pikes

Most famous for its appearance in Wham’s ‘Club Tropicana’ video, Pikes still holds it own as the hotel of choice on the island among visiting celebs and top DJs. It is a fusion of old meets new. Set in a 15th century farmhouse in the hills outside San Antonio it has a rustic feel to the décor but is kitted out with modern facilities. Suites are also on offer for those that really want to push the boat out. With Mojitos and massages by the pool it could be the perfect remedy to a night out at one of the islands’ clubs.

Ocean drive

For many years Ocean Drive was the DJ Hotel. It’s art deco styling had more in common with South Beach than Ibiza, and maybe the reason why so many American DJs, who were residing at Pacha, chose to stay here. It has fabulous views of the Marina and Ibiza town, which is just across the port. It’s also just a few minutes walk to Pacha and El Divino. Ocean Drive doesn’t have a pool but it makes up for it in style.

El Hotel

Pacha’s venture into the hotel business is El Hotel; opened in 2005 a striking white and stark design throughout has made it an easy choice for stylish clubbers. Not least because it’s just across the road from Pacha and guests benefit from free VIP access to the club. It’s one of the most contemporary choices on this list, and if you like your hotels with a modern, urban look, this could be the hotel for you.

Ibiza Grand Hotel

Only recently opened, the Grand Hotel has appeared in Talamanca like a luxury spaceship. The huge hotel has over 150 rooms and aims to deliver the 5 star luxuries that Ibiza has been missing for so many years. It benefits from views across the bay and a Spa, which is becoming standard among world-class hotels.

Aguas

Based in the quieter resort of Santa Euliua, Aguas provides all the styling of a top European hotel but away from the big city. The reception area is impressive in its own right and sets the tone for the whole hotel with an airy and modern feel. Though not yet fully open when we visited, the hotel will contain a Spa area that should set it part from the other offerings in the area. It has all the modern gizmos and gadgets you would expect in the rooms and sometimes it can feel like you are being tested to even open the curtains, but that’s what makes it special, having the curtains open by the touch of a button.

Atzaro

Atzaro is more of a retreat than simply a hotel. It is what it known as an agrotourism hotel and offers a range of holistic treatments to make your stay even more relaxing. It is set in an old finca in the centre of the island, which makes it an ideal location to explore all four corners of Ibiza. While it has a rustic and relaxed ambience, it also keeps things fashionable with regular art exhibitions, fashion shows and Balearic DJs playing here. The outdoor areas are just as impressive as the rooms with an inviting pool and stunning outside bar.
